The death of a 29-year-old woman from Queensland occurred on Saturday morning at Kelingking Beach in Bali, a popular tourist destination. Local police reported that the woman was found stuck on the cliffside after falling while attempting to reach the edge. Emergency services were dispatched but could not reach her in time as she fell further into the ravine. The incident took place around 9 AM local time. Cakra Negara, coordinator of Nusa Penida's alert unit, stated that the victim had sustained multiple fractures. A spokesperson from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that consular assistance was being provided to the woman's family, who have requested privacy during this difficult time. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli expressed his condolences, describing the incident as "tremendously sad" and highlighting the sorrow felt across Queensland. Swimming at Kelingking Beach is prohibited year-round due to dangerous currents, and the trek down to the beach is known to be treacherous, taking up to two hours. The site gained attention last year due to a controversial construction project aimed at building a glass elevator to facilitate access, which has faced significant opposition and legal challenges.
