The details emerged in the first episode of the Guardian’s podcast, The Populist. On April 13, Joyce conducted a live television interview from what appeared to be a bedroom in Rinehart’s home, the morning after a fundraising event at her property located on the banks of the Brisbane River in Hawthorne.

Parliamentary expenditure records indicate that both politicians declared flights on April 13, provided by Hancock Prospecting, and flight-tracking data confirmed they flew on Rinehart’s Gulfstream jet from Brisbane to Sydney later that day. However, the accommodation at Rinehart’s mansion was not declared to parliament, despite regulations mandating that gifts or hospitality exceeding $300 should be reported.

The guidelines specify that hospitality includes free or discounted accommodation provided by individuals or organizations, which could lead to potential conflicts of interest for parliamentarians. Joyce defended the stay, stating that Rinehart is a long-term friend and not a motel. He emphasized that he does not see such arrangements as work-related.

Additionally, it has been revealed that Hanson has been utilizing one of Rinehart’s bodyguards for her personal security. The bodyguard, who has a history with Rinehart, has been seen accompanying Hanson in various locations. The security manager's employment status with Hancock Prospecting remains unclear.
